In this tutorial I will explain, what are the steps to be followed in order to recover deleted SMS from a SIM card or phone memory.
STEPS INVOLVED:
1. First of all download and install FExplorer, excellent file manager and also sends files via Bluetooth.

2. Launch FExplorer and navigate to C: if you use Phone Memory to store your messages (default) and D: if you use Storage Card as your SMS storage location.
3. Now navigate to and open "system" folder.
4. Now open the "mail" folder.
5. This folder should contain many folders named similar to 0010001_s etc. with files named similar to 00100000 etc. These files are the actual deleted messages. Simply, use the FExplorer inbuild text viewer to view these files. You will need to browse through every folder and open all files inside them until you get the required SMS.

We also found a number of services online that claim to let you send and receive text messages online. We tried almost all of these but we werent even able to send a message with most, far less receive, so we cant recommend any. However, the following services worked reliably.
How to Send Free SMS
Way2sms
We tried a few free SMS services and found Way2sms to be the most useful. Text messages sent through Way2sms were delivered quickly, although that isnt unique to this service. It works on mobile browsers, desktop browsers and has an Android app. A functioning mobile website makes it accessible across platforms.
The service bombards you with ads, and the promotional emails reached us before the verification mail did. Also, we would recommend against using the Way2sms Android app - it requires a huge list of permissions and this includes "modify or delete the contents of your USB storage", "test access to protected storage", "read sensitive log data" and "precise location (GPS and network-based)". The mobile site is good, and so you dont need to use the app at all.
How you can send SMS for free using this service
Go to the Way2sms website and create an account. Youll be sent a password on your mobile phone and a verification email. Youll need both to verify your account and start sending free text messages.
Open the website and log in. Now click Send Free SMS. This will take you to a page where Way2sms asks you to add contacts. This isnt compulsory but the site makes it appear as if you cant send an SMS without saving contacts on its servers. Click the Send SMS link next to the home icon at the top.

Another well known service is 160by2, which used to be a competitor until it was acquired by Way2sms. Hike messenger is a messaging app available on most platforms, but it has an interesting feature - it allows you to send messages via SMS as well as messages to other Hike users. Unlike the services mentioned above, where you can only send messages, Hike also lets you receive messages - your friends just need to reply to the free messages you sent, and youll receive them within the app. You also "earn" more free SMSes by chatting using Hike messenger.
The app is available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, and Nokia S40 and S60.

Install the app, and register your account. Now tap the new message button and enter the phone number of anyone who isnt on Hike and send them a message. This will automatically be sent as an SMS.
Otherwise you can go to your contacts, and tap on the name of a contact who does not have Hike installed (or is offline at the moment) to chat with them using your SMS balance.

How my SMS and airtime websites make money
The promise of Free SMS and daily airtime draws are fairly decent traffic generators. Thousands of visitors hit my websites every day and while there are no dodgy subscription fees attached to my services and I do not sell user data, someone needs to foot the airtime and SMS bills at the end of the month (me).
I am surprised by how many people ask me how I pay the bills as the answer is a very simple one - Online advertising. Google AdSense provides me with an income stream that correlates to the number of visitors hitting my websites which enables me to buy more SMS and airtime as the sites get more traffic.
Its not simple to say how many people win airtime in a day or how many free SMS can be sent in a day as these numbers fluctuate each month (depending on advertising revenue) but are slowly increasing in the long term to sustain growth as traffic (and advertising revenue) increases. I do give as much advertising revenue back in the form of SMS and airtime as I can, though there are also other costs associated with running websites that need to be covered as well.
Right now the ratio of SMS to airtime spend is around 2:1 and my SMS site generally offers a better return on investment than my airtime site, but this may change in future if demand for free SMS dwindles (but hopefully it wont).
