Instructions:
- 1Visit the International Organization for Standardizations website and download the publications related to your business from the products section (see the third link in the Reference section for this article). The handbooks, packages and checklists are especially useful for companies new to ISO.
- 2Review the information and provide ISO education for the managers and training for the workers who perform hands-on quality-management tasks. The downloaded checklists provide step-by-step guidance.
- 3Review the checklist portion of the earlier downloaded materials, confirming and checking off each point of interest as you go.
- 4Search the Internet for an accredited certification/registration body. The ISO-recommended International Accreditation Forum Inc. website (the fourth link in the Reference section) provides a list of accredited certification bodies through the "IAF Members" icon on the left side of the Web page.
- 5Find a certifying body in your country by selecting "Economy" and then your country, unless you already know the name of a preferred certifying body.
- 6Contact the certifying body through the listed contact information; some provide websites while others invite telephone, fax or email contact.
- 7Compare the registration programs available, the charges and the reputations of at least two certifying bodies.
- 8Provide the information requested by the chosen certifying body and schedule an audit.
